Histopathologic findings indicated that 1179 (94%) of the appendectomy specimens were positive for acute appendicitis. Among these, 880 were phlegmonous appendicitis, and 148 were gangrenous appendicitis with perforation. Sixty-three were defined as lymphoid hyperplasia.
